Launching CrashCouch: your first friend in SF

A year ago, I came to San Francisco with a big dream.

It turned out to be the best decision of my life.

This city has opened more doors for me than I could have ever imagined.

SF has become my second home. In just 1 year, I’ve met more people here who share my curiosity and ambitions than I ever did back home in Korea.

But getting here wasn’t easy. Staying here wasn’t, either.

I moved 5 times in the past 1 year. 5 TIMES.

Finding a sublease was a nightmare. I almost became homeless a couple of times. But I got through it. Because I wasn’t alone.

I’ve seen people become temporarily homeless, moving between friends’ apartments, sleeping on couches, or asking some randos they met at hackathons if they could crash for a few nights while they fundraise.

Their dreams were big. But the reality kept getting in their way.

They couldn’t afford rent. Couldn’t sign a lease without a US credit history. Didn’t know how long they’d be staying because everything depended on their next fundraising round. Their accelerator residency had just ended.

Or they simply didn’t know anyone in the city.

Talent is everywhere. Access isn’t.

SF is full of opportunities. But to access them, you often need to already know someone here.

And while people love to say SF is too transactional, my experience has been the opposite. Most people I’ve met here are warm, generous, and genuinely want others to win.

I’ve seen people open their homes to strangers, make introductions, and help someone they’ve just met get their foot in the door.

What if we could make that generosity accessible to more people?

Not another Airbnb or rental marketplace.

No rent. No fees. Just people helping people.

A community that already exists, where people help each other get a foot in the door by sharing a small part of their place. Offering a place to sleep.

How it works:

  1. Join the community: Referral- and invite-only to start.
  2. Find a place to crash: Connect with community members willing to host visitors for up to 14 days.
  3. Pay it forward: Once you’ve found your footing, help the next person. Whether that’s offering a couch, making an introduction, or sharing what you’ve learned.

CrashCouch isn’t about finding free housing. It’s about making SF more accessible through the generosity of its people.

Because sometimes, all someone needs to change their life is a place to land and someone willing to open a door.

San Francisco changed my life.

I want more people to have that chance.

Welcome to CrashCouch.
